Around the World in 80 Days – 10 useful examples for Themes, Characters, Moral Values.

Some books write complicated details and use difficult words. Many students might not be able to understand well. With slightly simpler language, we have helped you to list down 10 most useful examples that can be used in Question 7 in PT3.

All you need to do now is to remember them and use  them during exams.

1. The wager

Phileas Fogg likes to go to the reform club. One day, he is playing cards with his friends. Then, they start to discuss about a bank robbery and if someone can travel around the world in 80 days.

Fogg’s friends challenge him to travel around the world in 80 days. So, Fogg places a bet of £20,000 for the wager. He starts his journey with Passepartout. They overcome many problems but Fogg never gives up. He faces his problems calmly and wins the wager at last.

2. The railways tracks are incomplete.

In India, when Fogg and his companions are travelling to Calcutta, the train stops halfway as the railway tracks are not completed. Fogg stays calm and find another way to continue his journey. He buys an elephant named Kiouni, to travel through the forest.

We must be determined/calm/confident

3.   Fogg and Passepartout save Auoda in the forest.

On the way to Allahabad, Fogg and his friends are travelling on an elephant. They find out that a group of bandits have kidnapped the daughter of a rich businessman. Phileas Fogg decides to save Auoda even though he does not know her. Fogg and Passepartout break down the wall of the hut and save Auoda. Fogg even offers Auoda to take her to Hong Kong to find her cousin.

4. Fogg bails Passepartout out.

 

 

In Calcutta, Passepartout is taken to the court by a policeman because he has entered the temple with his shoes. Passepartout is sentenced to go to jail for a week and a fine of £150. In order to continue his journey. Fogg happily pays £2000 to bail Passepartout out.

5. Fogg misses the ship and Passepartout goes missing

In Hong Kong, Fogg misses the Carnatic that goes to Yokohama. He finds a boat that can bring him to Shanghai where he can board on the Carnatic again. Aouda and Fogg are worried about Passepartout, so Fogg leaves some money for the police to search for Passepartout.

6. Fogg gets Passepartout out of the circus.

During a circus act, Passepartout ruins the performance as he leaves his team to run toward Fogg and Auoda. Passepartout misses Fogg so much that he is willing to give up his job. Fogg helps pay for the compensation by giving the owner of the circus some money.

7. Auoda does not leave Fogg

When Fogg finds out he loses the wager. Auoda does not leave him. She decides to stay with him even though he is poor now.

8. Fights with the outlaws on the train.

During the journey from San Francisco to New York, the train that Fogg is in is under attack by the outlaws. Passepartout finds out that the train is going to crash so he bravely removes the safety chains and stops the train. When the train stops, the outlaws run away.

 

However, they find out that some passengers are missing, including Passepartout. Fogg quickly go to rescue them. He pays £5000 to the soldiers who help him to look for Passpertout as reward. This shows that Fogg cares about his butler, Passepartout.

9. Passepartout does not want to help Fix

When Fix tells Passepartout that Fogg is a robber and asks for his help to arrest Fogg, Passepartout refuses and says he will never do that.

10. Fix makes plans to arrest Fogg

Fix is determined to catch Fogg as he follows Fogg to everywhere he goes. Although he fails to get the warrant, he does not give up. He even pretends to befriend Passepartout to try to learn more about Fogg.
