6 Tips for PT3 English Listening -Last Minute Revision (with BM meanings)

 

Good day!

We are less than a week away from the PT3 listening test. Are you all prepared for it?

Here are some last minute tips for you to once again remind you on some of the things you should know.

TIP 1:Know words on GIVING DIRECTIONS

Tahu kata-kata yang diguna semasa menunjuk arah.

From all the past years papers and most exercise sheets you can get you hands on, there will be ONE question on giving directions.

So, you need to really make sure you know the meanings of these words to find your answer later.

To help you, these are the meanings in BM:

  1. turn left- pusing ke kiri
  2. turn right-pusing ke kanan
  3. go straight ahead- teruskan ke depan
  4. go past- melepasi
  5. cross-menyeberang
  6. at the corner of – di suatu sudut
  7. next to –di sebelah
  8. opposite- bertentangan/seberang
  9. between- di antara.

TIP 2: Know how to read a GRAPH/CHART

Tahu kata-kata yang diguna semasa menerangkan  graf.

This is also one of the popular questions in PT3 Listening. You need to know how to read a line graph/pie chart/bar chart.

Most likely, the audio will tell you some statements and you need to find the graph/chart that represents them. To help you understand the statements that might be mentioned. Here are the words you need to know:

  1. the most/the highest – paling banyak / paling tinggi.
  2. the least/ the lowest – paling sikit/ paling rendah
  3. more than. lebih banyak daripada
  4. less than- lebih sikit daripada
  5. improve/ increase – meningkat
  6. decrease/decline – menurun
  7. until – sehingga
  8. the remaining – yang tinggal

TIP 3: Know the pronunciation of numbers

If you’re one of the weaker students, you might get confused on these.

If you’re quite good at it, you might want to double check these on your second listen.

  • The difference between numbers.

E.g. : 14 VS 40

sebutan: ‘Fourteen’ VS ‘forty’

  • date/month/year

E.g. : 13 June VS 30 June

sebutan: ‘thirteen’ June VS ‘thirty’ June

  • Time

E.g. :  3.15pm VS 3.50pm

sebutan: three ‘fifteen’ pm VS three ‘fifty’ pm

  • Big numbers

E.g. : 20000, 76000

Sebuatan: ‘twenty thousand’, ‘seventy six thousand’

TIP 4: Spot these words in Section B

Tahu kata-kata popular di Section B

These words can help you to focus better when you’re listening. Know what you are looking for so you can ignore the unimportant words.

  1. Title/Name of __________ – Tajuk/ nama
  2. Date                                               – Tarikh
  3. Time                                              – masa
  4. Place/Venue                                – tempat
  5. Fee                                                 – yuran
  6. Organiser                                     – penganjur
  7. The value of _________       – Nilai sesuatu: RM…
  8. Number of (participants)       – jumlah (peserta)
  9. Winner/champion                    -pemenang
  10. Score                                              – markah
  11. Prizes                                             – hadiah
  12. Price                                               – harga

TIP 5: Know your spelling well!

Tahu ejaan dalam Bahasa Inggeris

You need to spell correctly in order to get marks!

Many students are careless in their spelling, especially this:

Months 

January July
February August
March September
April October
May November
June December

TIP 6: Use capital for SPECIAL NOUNS

Gunakan huruf besar untuk kata-nama-khas

You don’t want to lose mark because of a careless mistake!

Use the time at the end to check all your spellings and whether you have used the CAPITAL letters for these special words or not!

E.g.

  • Jalan Mawar
  • Sekolah Menengah Sri Jaya
  • Lisa
  • Mrs. Siva
  • Kuala Lumpur
